Anticipated project outcomes include the following:
Develop a collaborative nurse and parent-educator home visitation program to serve families with a newborn child that will provide culturally specific home and community based parenting education.
Increase parent/child bonding and attachment, parenting knowledge and capacity. Decrease and monitor abuse and neglect. Improve Parent Life Course Outcomes and Family Self-efficiency.
Create “ladders” for families enrolled in Home Visitation services to explore and become comfortable using center based education and childcare services.
Create a “Home Visitation Support Community” for Parent Educators, Nurses and Social Workers doing intervention and prevention home visitation programs.
Strengthen broader community engagement, especially parents and guardians, through the development and use of the Parent Passport. By attending parenting classes, participating in school-site projects, volunteering in a child’s classroom, etc. parents will have their Passport stamped. A filled passport gets parents a coupon book redeemable at local merchants. The ultimate prize a parent/guardian can claim is a $1000 post-secondary scholarship.
