The Salinas City Elementary School District serves approximately 8,000 students in twelve schools:

Twelve schools are K-6.
Several schools also serve preschool children.
Kindergarten through third grade classes are limited to 20 students.
Class size for grades 4-6 are limited to an average of 28 to 1.
The Salinas City Elementary School District has many programs designed to help new teachers.

* Community Support Services - SCESD believes education is a community experience. Peacebuilders, Healthy Start, PAL afterschool programs, and the Early Mental Health Initiative program nurture and motivate our students.

* Bilingual Services - SCESD offers an excellent salary and support to qualified mainstream and bilingual teachers. We strongly support our limited English proficient students and the staff who serves them.

* BCLAD Training - Our district sponsors Spanish acquisition, ELD, and SDAIE training for teachers.

The required qualifications are:

Have a Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution.

Pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).

Provide a tuberculosis clearance form.

The district uses an automated substitute calling system to call substitutes for next day or future absences. As a substitute you can choose your assignments daily and/or schedule them in advance.
