The Battle of Natividad
The Battle of Natividad Plaque on San Juan Grade Road says:
"Combined American Forces under Captains Charles D. Burrass (or Burroughs) and Bluford K. Thompson clashed with Commandante Manuel de Jesus Castro's Californians in this vicinity on November 16, 1846. Casualties on each side consisted of several men killed and wounded. The Americans saved a large herd of horses for Lt. Col. John C. Fremont, who then later proceeded south to participate in the armistice at Cahuenga in January 1847."
There was a battle in the strawberry fields. It was called the Battle of Natividad. It wasn't big, it was a small battle. When the battle was over Lt. Col John Fremont went south with a herd of horses and he signed a contract which said we wouldn't fight any more. So the Mexicans gave the land to the United States. This landmark is by San Juan Grade Road and Crazy Horse Canyon Road.

It was a short war, but like all wars it was bad. The rock and the plaque are a reminder of the war. The plaque is shaped like a hill by the war ground. At first the Indians had the land, then Spain, then Mexico and then it was part of America.

The monument on San Juan Grade Road was dedicated to the Battle of Natividad. There was a small conflict between the Mexicans and the Americans. They signed a contract to make peace. I am glad because it is good to have California part of the United States.

My school went to the rock of the Battle of Natividad. It was kind of fun. It was on San Juan Grade Road by Crazy Horse Canyon Road. It was nice to see some history of the Battle of Natividad. It was close to our school, Lagunita. It was a neat plaque. We were the ones that won the land. First the Indians had the land, then the Spanish, then the Mexicans, then us. The battle did not last long.

The Battle of Natividad lasted a short time. It was in the fields by our school, Lagunita. Not a lot of people got hurt. Luckily!! It was on November 16, 1846. Now we have a monument so people will remember it. It was because of land that we had the short war. It was between the Mexicans and the Americans.

We went to see the plaque of Natividad. There was a battle there 152 years ago, in 1846. It is across from my school, Lagunita. Not a lot of people got hurt, but three people died. It lasted a few minutes. They got a herd of horses for Lt. Col. Fremont. It happened where Crazy Horse Canyon Road crosses San Juan Grade Road. After the fight Lt. Col. Fremont signed a peace agreement saying that the land belonged to America.
