Castroville is located on the central coast of California. We are in
a temperate zone, that means that the weather is mild and nice almost
all year long.
Castroville is known as "The Artichoke" capital of the world. It is
very proud to note that the first Artichoke Queen was Marilyn Monroe.
It is a small town but is close to many interesting attractions. To
the north is Santa Cruz where there are beautiful beaches and of course
the Boardwalk with rides and excitement. University of California
Santa Cruz has one of the most beautiful campuses in California.
Monterey, the first capital of California, is to the south, where there
are many historic buildings. Cannery Row, made famous by the author
John Steinbeck in his book Cannery Row is also in Monterey, along with
the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Just below Monterey is Pebble Beach with
its famous golf course.
For those that want to see breathtaking natural beauty, Big Sur, where
Ansel Adams spent his last years, is a little further south. East of
Castroville is Salinas, known for it's famous rodeo and another of John
Steinbeck's homes.
Castroville's Elementary School just celebrated its 100th year
anniversary in 1995. We are proud of where we live.
