PRINCIPAL'S
NOTES:
Brian
Morton
Welcome
to another Wildcat year. The staff and administration would
like to provide an overview of the First Day at School Activities,
our scheduling of classes, and our new programs within the Digital
High School program. Our First Day at School was
a wonderful event for the parents who visited the classes with
their students and participated in the noontime activities. The
school hosted representatives from the Recreation
Departments from Monterey, Marina
and Boy's
and Girl's Club of Seaside. The school wanted the students
to take advantage of the afternoon and evening programs available
at each of the Recreation Department's programs. We thank the
parents and the community programs that offered their time and
support to our students. Several career programs were also present
including branches of the military who are sponsoring the ASVAB,
a test that is

at no charge to the students and provides valuable information
about career options and career aptitudes. Several trade unions
were also present to offer all students the chance to learn more
about internships and training programs within the skilled trades.
We do appreciate the community's support in providing options
and extended learning and recreational opportunities for our students.
As you may know from our earlier notes to parents, we are designated
as a recognized Exemplary High School for the State of California
and also enjoy the status as a Digital
High School. Technology funding has allowed computer equipment
to be placed in the classrooms and with the equipment upgrades
in the George Patton Library, we are now offering Computer
Literacy Classes to our students. We hope that at end of the
literacy classes and the application of these skills, such as
word processing, Email,

spreadsheets,
and databases, students will utilize technology in opening new
learning options in their classrooms and beyond. Dana
Hall and Carol Fussenich,
our Technology teachers, have an article in Technology
section, please review it and call us if you have questions.
Within the newsletter you will also find valuable information
about our Alternative System,
which encourages students to take additional classes, make up
credits and earn promotions and other incentives.
THE
BOND ELECTION
As
you are aware, MPUSD
is planning on a Bond Election to help update classrooms, modernize
schools and qualify for State of California funds. Our superintendent
has created school and community level committees to assist in
making the general public aware of how very important these funds
are in maintaining public education facilities in our school district.
One of these important committees is
